Locomotive D5353 / 27007

Class 27 1250HP, Bo-Bo, Built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company, works number DEL196 of 1961.

Close cousins to class 33, the 27s were based on the earlier class 26 with an up rated engine. 27007 was delivered to Eastern Region in 1962, although the entire class was based in Scotland for most of its service life.

This loco was withdrawn 1986 and purchased by the Mid Hants Railway. It entered service in 1992 and gave years of faithful service before being stored in 2000 with many faults. In 2003 it was purchased from the MHR and a full overhaul begun, but sadly it was not completed. The loco deteriorated until February 2018 when it was taken to Caledonian Railway in Brechin.
